Umbrella

UMBRELLA

Umbrella is an illuminating metaphor that bridges sculpture and design. It alters the function of protection attributed to the umbrella, changing it into the function of light. The goal was to create a similar translucent atmosphere as the light that comes through an umbrella but have it come from inside the umbrella instead. The metal panels on the outside were cut out by a CNC plasma cutter and to give the light its translucency, clear wax paper was attached to the inside of the panels.
